If you are a Construction Engineer, and happen upon a large scaly beast ... DON'T WAKE IT. Unfortunately, this instruction was never added to the manual, and a 12 year old boy watches helplessly as his CE mother stumbles across a very big peacefully sleeping Dragon. 20 years after the beast - and it's offspring - take out their anger at mankind for the rude awakening, and the boy now adult - Quinn - played by Christian Bale (who gave a very literal meaning to American Psycho) feels a responsibility to surviving members of mankind by defending and protecting a small community from the barrage of fire raining attacks. Quinn's Castle Enforcer - Creedy - played by Gerard Butler (Dracula 2000 and Attila the Hun), provides both comic relief AND makes sure that all members of the community obey the rules.

Touted as a MEGAseries, as opposed to the average mini types, the three-night six-hour event is almost upon us (beginning tomorrow night at 7pm on ABC). The Master of the Miniseries, Robert Halmi, Sr. (I am not going to bother listing some of his credits, if you have seen any fantasy mini series on network television, chances are this is the man behind it ) and Hallmark once again takes us on another magical journey into realms unknown ... this time, with dinosaurs.

I liked it ... it was decent ... but it could have been better (can anybody scream the release of Lord of the Rings, yet?). The effects were surprisingly good, but it just seemed to me that the editing, storyline and performances just didn't know whether to be a big budget blockbuster, or cheap B movie. I wanted to dislike the decision to use Justin Whalin as lead character, Ridley Freeborn the thief (he played the teen Andy in Child's Play 3) ... but on more than one occasion he would surprise me with an above-average deliverance of lines in a scene. Would I have preferred the use of Warrior or Ranger for the lead? Hell, yes, but that's cause I just never liked thieves, of any kind.
