Time to give the devil his due ... even if the devil is Ben Affleck. I know, I know ... Mr. Affleck wouldn't be my first choice for a super hero. Hell, he wouldn't be my 100th choice! But, as much as I wanna cringe at the concept, I have seen the trailers, teasers and clips for this new film opening today, Daredevil. And I must admit, Ben makes it work. Be sure to check the link to the official web site to check out all the video clips. The movie simply rocks! But aside from that praise, if Kevin Smith casts either Ben or Matt Damon to play the new Superman ... I vow to commit suicide eating my own hard drive. The Daredevil saga begins as most other super heros, a terrible tragedy followed by the endless pursuit of justice. However, in this case, justice is REALLY blind ... no, I am not kidding, it's REALLY blind ... I'm freakin'' serious, the guy is honestly BLIND! When young Matt Murdock was just a boy, he was blinded by radioactive waste flying off some truck. From then on, he turned this DISability into some amazing extrasensory Abilities. All his remaining senses mysteriously amplified. And with the help of his dad (David Keith - Carrie remake, SciFi channel's Epoch and classic Firestarter), he grows into a fine lawyer (isn't lawyer and super hero a contradiction in terms?). But, when his father is murdered, Matt isn't satisfied with defending his honest clients by day. He sets out to rid his hometown of all wrongs by night, as the red garbed, Daredevil. By day, Matt Murdoch typically exchanges witty banter with his partner and best pal, Foggy Nelson (Jon Favreau - Deep Impact), until a stunning young woman enters his life. Elektra (Jennifer Garner - who rocks my world every week on ABC's super hit series, Alias) is the spoiled blade-weilding babe daughter of a wealthy business associate of the local hood, Kingpin. While love blooms between the two by day, it quickly turns into vengeful hatred by night when her father is murdered, and Daredevil is framed. framed by who, you might ask? Well, it seems Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin (Michael Duncan Clark - Planet of the Apes remake, The Green Mile, and Armageddon) has been busy trying to recruit a few nasties to fix Daredevil 's lil red wagon. One nasty is the maniacal Bullseye (Colin Farrell - Minority Report and next year's blockbuster epic ala Oliver Stone, Alexander ... can anyone say Academy Award?), whose claim-to-fame is not only hitting everything he targets, but framing Daredevil for the murder of Elektra's daddy. He has become a tad bit frustrated lately that the ONLY thing he can't seem to hit is Daredevil. And so sets the stage for another battle of Good verses Evil along the streets of Hell's Kitchen ... Rounding out the cast: Joe Pantoliano (The Matrix) as the neighborhood reporter, Coolio, and longtime Affleck bud, Kevin Smith (the infamous Silent Bob, Dogma, and wrote several of the Daredevil comics). Now, if you are still squirming over the Ben Affleck issue cast as a beloved super hero, lemme leave you with this thought ... it coulda been Matt Damon.
