The evil Damodar returns to unleash his vengeance upon the kingdom of Izmir, in SciFi Channel's Dungeons and Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God. Izmir's ancestors destroyed him and his power-hungry master, Profion, a hundred years earlier. Now he has scoured the lands to find the source of power to awaken Faluzure, the black dragon of destruction and decay. Word reaches Izmar, and it's former Captain of the Guard, Lord Berek and his beautiful young wife and talented Mage, Melora, who discover the slumbering monster within the belly of the mountains near Izmir.

From the ultimate evil comes the ultimate quest.

Melora discovers Damodar's evil plan through her magic, but in doing so she is hit with a powerful cursed spell by Damodar. The King sends Lord Berek to put together a band of heroes to seek out and capture the Dark Orb before the Dragon is unleashed upon Izmir:

The Quest Heroes:

  • Berek, the Warrior - Mark Dymond (Until Death, Attack Force, hysterical in the film Caffeine which I only mention here since I am writing a review for my pal and moderator here GOONKA's Daz Crawford fansite, Die Another Day, Revelation, The Adventures of Sinbad tv series)
  • Lux, the Barbarian - Ellie Chidzey
  • Dorian, the Cleric - Steven Elder (Robin Hood tv series, Afterlife tv series, Cold and Dark, and next year's Gallowwalker)
  • Ormaline, the Elf Wizard - Lucy Gaskell (new Doctor Who series, and next year's Lesbian Vampire Killers ... hey, don't blame the title on me)
  • Nim, the Rogue - Tim Stern

Kingdom of Izmir:

  • Melora, Berek's wife and Mage - (Supernova, the Lady Musketeer, Until Death)
  • Galtar - Geoffrey T. Bersey (Stone's War, Highlander: The Source)
  • Oberon - Roy Marsden (new Doctor Who tv series, the original BBC version of Eleventh Hour series, 2005's Mysterious Island, 2004's King Solomon's Mines, Space: 1999 classic tv series, The New Avengers tv series, Toomorrow, Secret Agent aka Danger Man tv series)
  • Valerius, Lord Berek's replacement as Captain of the Guard - Yvtautas Rumsas

The Quest Villians:

  • Damodar - Bruce Payne (Messages, Charmed tv series, Paranoia: 1.0, Hellborn, Ripper, Dungeons and Dragons, Highlander: Endgame, Warlock 3: The End of Innocence, La Femme Nikita tv series, Ravager, Aurora: Operation Intercept, H.P. Lovecraft's Necronomicon - Book of the Dead, Full Eclipse, Howling 6: The Freaks, Blake Edwards' Switch, Solarbabies, F.Paul Wilson's The Keep and look for him in next year's The Book)
  • Wicked Doctor, Damodar's sidekick - Arturas Builovas
  • Klaxx the Malign, powerful Lich - Aurimas Meliesius (Attila tv mini-series)

Wrath of the Dragon God sticks closer to the classic role-playing game, than the original Dungeons and Dragonsfilm. As a result, it takes itself far more seriously than it's predecessor. It does lack then high-profile cast of the first, but all the performances are just as solid. The Lich, Klaxx, is particularly engaging as a real nasty, and not-so-pretty sorcerer.
