Touted as a MEGAseries, as opposed to the average mini types, the three-night six-hour event is almost upon us (beginning tomorrow night at 7pm on ABC). The Master of the Miniseries, Robert Halmi, Sr. (I am not going to bother listing some of his credits, if you have seen any fantasy mini series on network television, chances are this is the man behind it ) and Hallmark once again takes us on another magical journey into realms unknown ... this time, with dinosaurs. Dinotopia is writer/illustrator Jim Gurney's fantasy creation of a world where human and dinosaur live and work together in peace and harmony. What started as simple drawings, Gurney expanded into a series of books and children's stories ... other authors have extended this world, such as the novel I am currently reading by Alan Dean Foster, Dinotopia Lost. The ABC miniseries is based on two of Gurney's own stories, Dinotopia: A Land Apart from Time and Dinotopia: The World Beneath. This $80 million dollar story begins with two young brothers, Karl and David (Tyron Leitso and Wentworth Miller) who during a flight with their father, crash land into this bizarre community of man and megabeast. There they will discover the wonders of this hidden continent, and try to adapt ... and possibly, escape back to the world outside. Of the rather fresh faced cast only Rosemary, played by Shakespearean actress, Alice Krige (the Borg Queen in Star Trek First Contact, and next year's Children of Dune, and classics Stephen King's Sleepwalkers and Peter Straub's Ghost Story), seems the veteran for this genre. Watch for this hot new show premiere May 12, 13 and 14 on ABC and for more interactive fun of the world of Dinotopia, visit the official web site for the megaseries: http://www.visitdinotopia.com/ ... and be sure to check out author Jim Gurney's official web site for all info about his world and wonderful stories:
