You'll be hearing a lot of references to this new series on SyFy, that it is based on the Stephen King crime novella, The Colorado Kid. However, the only connection to the non-supernatural mystery King wrote, and the teleplay of Haven, comes into play as a sub-plot to the series. How we get to that point is later in the premiere episode of Haven, and will serve as the motivation for the lead character, FBI Agent Audrey Powers.

While investigating the murder of a local ex-con, FBI Agent Audrey Powers finds herself in the tiny hamlet of Haven. Haven is taken from the local native american name of Tuwiuwok, which translates to 'Haven for God's Orphans.' Appropriately named, as the town has been a refuge for generations of strange people trying to live out some sort of normal life (Hehe, lucky them ... where can I find such a place?). One by one, the townspeople's unique supernatural abilities are revealed, and Agent Powers must find ways to keep them from spiraling out of control. But, beyond the whodunnit, and what makes this town so special, is another deep, dark secret of Audrey's own past (aka The Colorado Kid).
